The Festival gives you the opportunity to:
Learn and play lots of different sports and games, to practise the skills of your favourite sports and improve your mental attitude when doing sport. You’ll also breathe clean, fresh air, as well as learning about the environment and healthy eating.
You’ll find out more about yourself and meet, play, laugh and have fun with lots of new people – both from and abroad – of your own age. You’ll find out how easy it is to communicate with people you don’t know and, at the end of your stay, you’ll feel as if you’ve known your new friends for a life-time.
Sport and activities:
Aerobics, martial arts, basketball, beach volleyball, football, hill-walking, gymnastics, mountain biking, swimming, handball, volleyball, roller-blading, rugby, tennis, table-tennis.
There are also courses on healthy eating , the environment, folk dancing, performing arts and computer skills.
Who’s it for and for how long?
For boys and girls aged 6 – 16, for two-week courses from June to September.
Organisation and staff
The school is run by its own staff with the help of highly-qualified Italian and foreign coaches and instructors.
The Festival offers:
- General activities and games: Exercises and games to learn basic skills that are common to all sports with the general aim of improving motor skills, mental and physical health. This activity is mainly for 6 -10 year olds.
- Introduction to sport: Preparatory exercises and activities leading to the various sporting disciplines. Instruction in the basic techniques and tactics for specific sports. This is mainly for 10-13 year olds.
- Improving your skills: Participants concentrate on improving and perfecting the skills of their chosen sport. This course is aimed at 14 -16 year olds.
- Sport activities: Once a day, all the boys and girls get together to learn a new sporting discipline. The aim of this is to broaden their horizons so that they can choose the right sport for them.
- Intercultural, environmental and healthy eating education: This involves learning about the Mediterranean diet, going on walks in the nearby mountains and the experience of living with people from different cultures.
- Additional activities: As well as walks in the mountains, there are also sports tournaments and competitions of various types. Girls and boys can also join in with film-making – recording their experiences at Casa Montagna, the production of a magazine, a photograph exhibition, computer-based activities as well as drawing and painting.
- International Youth Festival: Apart from the sports activities, groups of youngsters from all over the world join in the Festival, performing their traditional music, songs, dances, plays and arts.
- Sunday with the Mum and Dad: The middle Sunday in each two-week stay is open to parents so that they can see at first hand what the Festival is all about. They also get a chance to what Ferriere has to offer as a holiday location.
