Where we are
Ferriere is a small mountain locality of 1,000 inhabitants situated in the Appenine Mountains in the province of Piacenza on the borders of the provinces of Parma and Genoa.
The community of Ferriere dates back to the fifteenth century when it flourished on mining its iron and copper deposits.
Today, the mines are a thing of the past and Ferriere has turned its attentions to organic farming, ‘green’ tourism, and a project called Casa Montagna Valnure di Ferriere, which has been the site of The International Youth Festival (formerly the Barilla Sport School) since 2002. The Festival is for youngsters from all over the world and is open throughout the year. It is aimed at schools, cultural and sports associations, and at all those interested in intercultural experiences, sport and tourism.
